Dear Sappy,
I really admire your heart. Its the best heart I have ever known in my day. You were so concerned about the price of petunias at the store because you wanted to make sure that many orphans might find one in their greeting card that you planned to send to them for their birthday. I loved the idea of greeting someone with a nice pretty flower that really just looks good and makes you smile. But sadly, that petunia did not smell at all. It was soon forgotten by the orphan. And the prices of the petunias were really not a changing commodity. They were always the same every day of the week. I bet that you did not realize that because you really wanted to sell the petunias that you had left over to passerbys at the grocery store. I missed the meaning of the petunia though. I didn't think that a petunia was something you could put in a vase and it really looked neat but isn't the more important message what you wrote in the greeting card? Somehow you forgot to even write a Happy Birthday in the greeting card and no one knew why they were receiving a petunia and a blank greeting card on their birthdays. I was amazed that you didn't see this, but I had hoped to tell you about this situation myself. So now you have run out of funds for buying both greeting cards and you have also run out of funds to buy petunias and all of the orphans have grown up. I am sorry that there is something missing in their day but they would never know. They were happy their whole life and they just missed your smile and your friendship. So the moral of this story is, if you want to send the best, make sure that they know from whom it really came. It is a blessing to have good will in your soul but where is the friendship that backs up deeds with prosperity? If you can send a card, send a card, but don't fret the price of the greeting that you send forth. Send it and pay any price. Its a blessing to be a friend of an orphan and if you want to show the world who you really are, write your name on the bottom of the card before you send it.
